The best bean-to-cup coffee machines in Australia

Quick answer: For most households the best bean-to-cup coffee machine is the Philips 2300 Series LatteGo (EP2331/30): one-touch cappuccino with a two-part milk jug that rinses clean, $679 at Harvey Norman and The Good Guys. If you only drink black coffee or are happy to steam milk yourself, the De'Longhi Magnifica S (ECAM12122B) is $476.95 at Kitchen Warehouse. For a household where everyone drinks something different, the Philips 5500 ($999) saves four user profiles.

Price at the retailer named, checked 18 October 2026. Prices change, so the retailer's page is the final word. We can't show Amazon prices here; the Amazon button shows today's price. Paid links: we may earn a commission. The highlighted pick is the one we'd buy for most people.

How we picked: We compared these 7 picks on milk, grinder, drinks and price, using maker specs, Australian retailer prices and owner reports. We haven't tested them hands-on yet, and maker claims are labelled as theirs. Commission never changes the order. Full method.

A bean-to-cup machine (also sold as “fully automatic”) grinds, doses, tamps and brews at the press of a button, and the better ones texture milk too. You give up the control of a manual espresso machine and get a consistent coffee in about a minute with nothing to learn. Prices below were checked at JB Hi-Fi, Harvey Norman, The Good Guys, Kitchen Warehouse, Myer and Appliances Online on 18 October 2026; for the machines also on Amazon Australia, check the current price on Amazon. We compared maker specifications and retailer listings; we have not run these machines ourselves.

The milk system is the main decision

How a machine handles milk decides how you will live with it.

  • Manual steam wand (De’Longhi Magnifica S). You texture milk yourself in a jug, as on a manual machine. Cheapest, and nothing extra to clean beyond the wand.
  • Philips LatteGo (2300, 3300, 5500). A jug clips onto the front and the machine froths into the cup. Philips says the jug has two parts and no tubes and rinses clean in 10 seconds or goes in the dishwasher.
  • De’Longhi LatteCrema carafe (Magnifica Evo, Rivelia). A milk carafe with sensors and an automatic clean function; the Evo’s holds 220 ml.
  • Milk pipe (Jura E8). A tube draws milk from a container or carton. Jura supplies cleaning tablets for the milk system.

If you mostly drink long blacks or espresso, skip automatic milk and save the money.

Grinders and drinks menus

Bean-to-cup grinders are built into the brew unit, so you cannot swap them. Philips uses a ceramic grinder with 12 steps on all three models here. De’Longhi uses conical steel burrs with 13 settings on the Magnifica S, Magnifica Evo and Rivelia. Jura lists 7 grind levels on the E8. More steps help you tune for darker or lighter beans; none of these will grind as fine or as finely adjustable as a good standalone espresso grinder.

Drinks menus range from 4 one-touch recipes (Magnifica S, on Amazon’s listing; the Philips 2300 has four coffees plus hot water) to 20 (Philips 5500) and 27 (Jura E8). A long menu is mostly the same espresso with different milk and water ratios, so count the drinks your household actually orders.

Pump pressure is not a quality score

The Rivelia lists a 19 bar pump, the Magnifica and Philips machines 15 bar. Espresso is brewed at around 9 bar; JB Hi-Fi’s listing for the Magnifica Evo describes its brew unit tamping for an infusion pressure of 9 to 12 bar. A higher pump number says nothing about the coffee.

The picks

The Philips 2300 Series LatteGo is the one we would buy for a household that drinks cappuccinos and flat whites and does not want to learn to steam. It grinds on a 12-step ceramic grinder, has a 1.8 L tank and a 275 g bean hopper, and its LatteGo jug is the simplest automatic milk system here to clean. It was $679 at Harvey Norman and The Good Guys, but $849 at JB Hi-Fi on the same day, so check before you pay. Philips says its AquaClean filter means no descaling for up to 5,000 cups.

The De’Longhi Magnifica S (sold by Australian retailers as the Magnifica, model ECAM12122B) is the cheapest bean-to-cup machine from a major brand we found: $476.95 at Kitchen Warehouse, $477 at The Good Guys and Harvey Norman. It brews two espressos at once, takes cups from 85 to 142 mm tall (JB Hi-Fi) and has a manual steam wand. It also features in the under $500 guide.

The Philips 3300 adds iced coffee and latte macchiato for $749 at Harvey Norman; Appliances Online had it at $974. The De’Longhi Magnifica Evo is De’Longhi’s automatic-milk answer to the Philips 2300, at $688 at JB Hi-Fi. JB Hi-Fi’s own page lists both 12 and 13 grind settings; The Good Guys lists 13.

The Philips 5500 is the pick for a house where everyone drinks something different: 20 drinks, four user profiles and a QuickStart mode that heats only for the drink you choose, $999 at three retailers. Its grinder and tank are the same as the 2300’s. The De’Longhi Rivelia has a trick no other machine here has: two 250 g bean hoppers you swap, so a decaf and a regular blend can both live in the machine. It was $1,107 at Appliances Online. The Rivelia sold on Amazon Australia is a different variant (EXAM440.35.B), so we have not linked it.

The Jura E8 is the premium option at $2,499 at The Good Guys: 27 drinks, a 3.5 inch colour display, a 1.9 L tank and Jura’s P.A.G.2 grinder. It costs more than twice the Philips 5500 for a longer menu and Swiss design.

Not sure whether you want bean-to-cup or a manual machine? The espresso machine guide explains what you get for doing the work yourself, and the beginner guide covers machines in between, such as the Breville Barista Touch.

What to avoid

Judging a bean-to-cup machine by its drinks count or bar rating. Both are marketing numbers. Decide on the milk system first (none, LatteGo, carafe or pipe), then compare grind settings, tank size and price at two or three retailers. Bean-to-cup prices moved a lot between stores: the same Philips 2300 ranged from $679 to $849, and the 3300 from $749 to $974, on the same day.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best bean-to-cup coffee machine in Australia?

For most people, the Philips 2300 Series LatteGo at $679: it makes a cappuccino at one touch and its milk jug has two parts and no tubes. If you do not need automatic milk, the De'Longhi Magnifica S is about $200 cheaper.

Is a bean-to-cup machine as good as a manual espresso machine?

A well-used manual machine with a good grinder can make better espresso, because you control the grind, dose and tamp. A bean-to-cup machine trades that control for consistency and speed: it grinds, doses and tamps the same way every time.

Are bean-to-cup coffee machines hard to clean?

Daily cleaning is mostly emptying the grounds bin and drip tray and rinsing the milk system. Philips' LatteGo jug has two parts and no tubes; carafe and pipe systems need their cleaning cycle run. All of them need descaling, though Philips says its AquaClean filter delays it for up to 5,000 cups.

Can bean-to-cup machines use pre-ground coffee?

Most can. The De'Longhi Magnifica S has a separate pre-ground compartment, which is handy for decaf. The Rivelia instead lets you swap between two bean hoppers.

How long do bean-to-cup coffee machines last?

Makers do not publish a service life. All seven here carry a two-year manufacturer's warranty at the retailers we checked, so compare that, and descale on schedule.
